Time to see beyond your imagination

by admin @ IT Support Illinois, Web Hosting, Website design chicago | Managed IT Services Chicago

TIME TO SEE BEYOND YOUR IMAGINATION 25 April 2016 by: admin in: Tech Quick Tips by Techman’s Techie note: no comments The Samsung Gear VR is a mobile virtual reality headset developed by Samsung electronics, in collaboration with Oculus, and manufactured by Samsung. The headset was released on 27 November 2015. When in use, a compatible Samsung galaxy device (Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6/S6 Edge/S6 Edge+, or Galaxy S7/S7 Edge) acts as the headset’s display and processor, while the Gear VR unit itself acts as the controller, which contains the high field of view, as well as a custom inertial measurement unit, or IMU, for rotational tracking, which connects to the smartphone via micro-USB. This IMU is more accurate and well calibrated with lower latency than internal smartphone IMUs, such as those used for Google cardboard. There’s an incredible lineup of more than 30 games available on the Oculus Store, ready to play right now! There’s something for everyone – from the Zelda-esque labyrinth adventure of Chrono’s to the high-impact space battle simulation of EVE: Valkyrie, and of course Lucky’s Tale, the colorfully immersive VR platformer that’s bundled with every Rift. Meet up with your friends in VR and control mighty armies in AirMech Command, engage in an epic race in Blaze Rush or duke it out on the court in VR Tennis. With Oculus 360 Photos, you can explore over 200,000 incredible destinations. You’ll relax on a beach in the tropics, peer over a mountaintop in the Alps, and enjoy amazing scenes from across the universe. The Gear VR headset also includes a touchpad and back button on the side, as well as a proximity sensor to detect when the headset is on. The touchpad and button allow for a standard minimum input capability for users to interact with the virtual environments, whereas Google Cardboard devices only feature a button. The VR shows you a better graphic view...

How to set up safe senders and blocked senders in Office 365

How to set up safe senders and blocked senders in Office 365 24 February 2016 by: admin in: Office365 Tags: outlook 365 support, spam filter for office 365 note: 339 comments INTRODUCTION When you set up safe senders and blocked senders for mailboxes in Microsoft Exchange Online in Microsoft Office 365, mailboxes store the safe senders and blocked senders for each user independently. This resembles the behavior in earlier versions of Microsoft Outlook. After the settings are set up, they are persistent in Outlook and in Outlook Web App. Admins who have a hybrid deployment can set up the safe senders and blocked senders to match the settings that are applied by using Group Policy settings in Active Directory. Office 365 admins have to use Windows PowerShell in Exchange Online to set up these settings for user mailboxes. Note The procedures in this article are intended for Office 365 admins. Individual users who want to make changes to safe senders and blocked senders should go to one of the following Microsoft websites: Outlook Web App: Block or allow (junk email settings) Outlook: Overview of the Junk Email Filter PROCEDURE Exchange Online admins must be assigned to the following management roles to set up the safe senders and blocked senders settings: Organization Management Records Management Recipient Management Help Desk How to set up safe senders and blocked senders for a single user Connect to Exchange Online by using remote PowerShell. For more info about how to do this, go to the following Microsoft website: Connect to Exchange Online using remote PowerShell At the Windows PowerShell prompt, type the following command, and then press Enter: Set-MailboxJunkEmailConfiguration -Identity <user@contoso.com> -BlockedSendersAndDomains "<domainA>.com", "<user>@<domainB>.com","..." -TrustSendersAndDomains "<domainC>.com","<user>@<domainD>.com","..." 5 Ways to Stay Secure Online

by admin @ IT Support Illinois, Web Hosting, Website design chicago | Managed IT Services Chicago

5 Ways to Stay Secure Online 02 February 2016 by: admin in: Online Security note: 8 comments Hook up to a network that you know.   Free Wi-Fi is tempting, but be sure that you consider who is providing the connection. Public connections at the local coffee shop are usually unsecured and leave your machine open to outsiders. While these networks provide a convenience, there are risks to be aware of.   Bank and shop with caution.   Shopping from familiar websites is a good place to start. Stick with the reputable sites that are tried and true – like Amazon or eBay. Also, when checking out and finalizing the purchase, look for the ‘padlock’ symbol or the abbreviation ‘https’ in the address bar at the top of your browser. This will ensure that you are on a secure, encrypted part of this webpage. Keeping an eye on your bank statements for suspicious activity is always a good idea, among these other best practices for shopping online.   Use secure passwords. Passwords for logging into any website should contain a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters – as well as be different for each website that you log into. It can definitely be a pain to remember all of these passwords, but ask yourself which is more of a pain – remembering these, or recovering stolen personal information.   Lock Your Computer. When you walk away from your machine, lock it. In Windows, it is as easy as pressing the Windows key + L. On an Apple Mac, pressing “Control+Shift+Eject” will do the trick (unless you do not have an optical drive, then you can hit the “Power” key instead of “Eject”). This practice would be the equivalent to deadbolting the front door of your home. It acts as a deterrent to the bad guys as well as...

How to Boost Your Sales Technique

by admin @ IT Support Illinois, Web Hosting, Website design chicago | Managed IT Services Chicago

How to Boost Your Sales Technique 22 March 2016 by: admin in: Web Designs note: no comments Research Begins on the World Wide Web  People are looking into and forming opinions about your managed IT services company before ever speaking with one of your sales representatives. Will they like what they see? On a sales call, you can control the conversation. You can ask discovery questions, like “what would you do if you showed up to work tomorrow and discovered all of your files had been locked?” Depending on how they answer, you can then start to build a prospect profile to see if your services are a good fit for that company. But how do you control the dialogue when a prospect seeks you out and conducts their own research on the IT support you offer? Marketing. And more specifically, inbound marketing. You may recall that this methodology involves targeting, attracting and nurturing quality prospects over a series of touch points and online channels rather than chasing and blasting companies all at once. Such channels and content strategies you can leverage in your inbound marketing plan include: Website Blog Social media Email marketing Webinar Video marketing Case studies Downloadable content Knowledge Base Google is Your New Business Card Let’s focus on the first bullet above. Your website determines the first impression potential prospects have of your company. Today, Google is your new business card. People no longer consult the yellow pages for IT support companies in their local area, calling to inquire about services provided. Instead, you have to win them over via your online presence. While the other digital marketing channels and content listed above are sales influencers in their own right, your website is the ultimate way to set yourself up for success. If a prospect can’t find you in their local...

Is your remote services secure enough?

by admin @ IT Support Illinois, Web Hosting, Website design chicago | Managed IT Services Chicago

Is your remote services secure enough? 10 May 2016 by: admin in: Online Security Tags: Online Security note: no comments The default for all user logons whether local or remote has always been reliant upon the humble password. In the past this has been “good enough” security, however the modern connected world that we work and conduct our business today, a password is now the weakest link. The password can be cracked easily because it can be guessed by most of the hackers by understanding our previous history of passwords. All too often reports in the media explain about passwords that are stolen, either electronically or by social engineering techniques. Passwords that are easily guessable, passwords that can be sniffed or captured by hardware of software key loggers. Viruses and malicious code all play there part in trying to obtain a user’s passwords, but the biggest concern is how do you know that your password has been compromised. All you security logs will show is that a successful logon occurred. Can you really prove who was actually behind the login? To put all of this into perspective passwords are under attack.
